Everything you need to know about APODIX scanning accuracy, privacy, pricing, exports, and tax use.
Accuracy & Technology
Paid plans (Starter, Pro, Business) achieve approximately 95% field accuracy on standard receipts. The free tier uses Apple Vision OCR on-device at approximately 75%. Accuracy depends heavily on receipt condition a flat, well-lit receipt in good light will score much higher than a crumpled, faded thermal receipt.
Local OCR (free tier) runs entirely on your iPhone using Apple's Vision framework. It extracts text from the image and uses pattern-matching to find amounts, dates, and store names fast, private, and works offline, but limited to ~75% accuracy on non-standard receipts. AI scanning (paid) sends the extracted text to our server, where our AI reads it the same way a human would understanding context, correcting ambiguous characters, and interpreting unusual formats. It doesn't see your receipt image, only the text.
Every scan goes through a review screen before saving you see all extracted fields and can edit any of them in one tap. Nothing is auto-saved without your confirmation. If a field is consistently wrong, paid users can also tap "Use AI" to re-analyze the same receipt with the AI engine.
Better than most apps the AI engine is designed to handle degraded receipts, but physical image quality is the fundamental limit for any scanner. For best results: lay the receipt flat, use good lighting, and keep the camera steady. Our AI pre-validates that what you scanned is actually a receipt before processing, so you won't get random junk saved as a receipt.
Yes. APODIX handles CHF, EUR, GBP, USD, CAD, AUD, JPY, SEK, NOK, and more. It recognises European date formats (DD.MM.YYYY), comma decimal separators (e.g. 54,50 → $54.50), and VAT labels like MwSt (German), TVA (French), and IVA (Spanish/Italian). The AI engine is particularly strong on non-US receipts where pattern-matching OCR typically struggles.
Partially. Clear, printed handwriting is often readable by the AI engine. Cursive or rushed handwriting is generally not reliably extractable by any scanner in that case, scan the receipt to capture the image, then fill in the fields manually on the review screen.
Privacy & Security
All receipt data and images are stored locally on your device using Apple's CoreData framework. For AI processing, only the extracted text (not the image) is transmitted over HTTPS to our server and is not retained after the response is returned. We do not operate a receipt database in the cloud your receipts live on your phone.
No. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data or receipt data with any third parties for advertising or commercial purposes. Full details in our Privacy Policy.
No. Free tier scanning runs entirely on-device using Apple Vision. The only network requests from free users are silent device authentication (for account management, no personal data) and subscription verification. No receipt content is ever transmitted on the free tier.
Deleting the app removes all locally stored receipts and images from your device. Since receipt data is stored on your device rather than our cloud, we do not retain it after deletion. Export your data first if you want to keep a record.
Supported Receipts
Any paper or printed receipt: restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, hotels, pharmacies, clothing stores, hardware stores, and more. It works across different countries and receipt formats. Digital/email receipts are not currently supported you'd need to screenshot them first.
Yes. On the Scan tab, tap "Choose from Library" to import any photo from your camera roll. This is useful if you already photographed a receipt or received a photo of one.
Yes. Using the "Scan Receipt" camera button, you can capture multiple pages in one session. APODIX processes each one and shows a batch review screen where you can edit, remove, or save individual receipts before committing.
Tax & Business Use
Yes many users use APODIX specifically for tax season. The app stores the original receipt image alongside extracted data. CSV export is always free. Excel (.xlsx) and PDF reports (the formats most accountants prefer) are available on paid plans. Always verify requirements with your accountant for your specific jurisdiction.
Receipts are stored indefinitely until you delete them. Deleted receipts go to a "Deleted Items" folder and are retained for your chosen period (1 week or 1 month) before being permanently removed giving you a safety net against accidental deletions.
Yes. Go to Reports, then Export to download a CSV (free), Excel (.xlsx), or PDF report (paid plans). All exports include date, store name, category, subtotal, tax, and total. You can filter by custom date range before exporting. Raw OCR text is deliberately excluded from exports for privacy.
Yes. APODIX automatically suggests a category based on the merchant name and receipt content: Food, Grocery, Shopping, Travel, Entertainment, Health, or Other. You can change it on the review screen before saving, or edit it later on any saved receipt.
Pricing & Subscriptions
Yes. The free tier includes unlimited receipt scanning with on-device OCR (~75% accuracy), unlimited storage, CSV export, and spending reports. AI-powered scanning (~95% accuracy) plus Excel and PDF exports require a paid plan starting at $3.99 USD/month.
Yes. All your receipts remain on your device after cancelling. You lose AI scanning and Excel/PDF export, but CSV export stays free and all your historical data remains accessible at any time.
Open iPhone Settings → tap your Apple ID at the top → Subscriptions → find APODIX → Cancel. Subscriptions are managed entirely through Apple we cannot charge you directly and cannot cancel on your behalf. You can also tap "Manage Subscription" inside the APODIX app for a shortcut.
No. AI scans reset each billing period (monthly). Unused scans do not carry over. If you consistently use fewer scans than your plan allows, you may want to consider the next tier down.
Yes. In APODIX → Settings → Manage Subscription → "Restore Purchases". Your subscription is tied to your Apple ID, not your device, so it restores on any iPhone using the same Apple ID.
Practical Use
The free tier (on-device OCR) works entirely offline. Paid AI scanning requires an internet connection to reach the server. If you're offline, you can still scan on the free tier and upgrade your scan to AI later when connected.
The VisionKit scanner built into APODIX automatically enables your iPhone's torch when light is low. Alternatively, you can photograph the receipt now and import it from your camera roll later at home.
Yes. Tap any receipt in your list → Edit (pencil icon) to update any field: store name, date, amounts, category. Paid users can also tap "Use AI" on saved receipts to re-analyze them with the AI engine if the original scan wasn't accurate enough.
Swiping to delete a receipt moves it to a "Deleted Items" folder rather than permanently removing it. Go to Settings → Deleted Items to restore it (swipe right) or permanently delete it (swipe left). Deleted items auto-purge after your chosen retention period (1 week or 1 month, set in the same screen).
